When safety glass breaks it breaks differently to normal glass. It either fractures into pieces that are small and blunt enough not to cause severe injury (toughened safety glass) or cracks, but does not break away, staying place attached to the interlayer (laminated safety glass).

What glass will reduce noise?

There is a range of laminated soundproof glass that is a laminated glass with a thicker interlayer that offers good results. However, all factors need to be considered, such as gaps around frames and insulation in ceilings. Double glazing can reduce noise but most existing frames will not be able to accept the thicker unit making this option more viable.

Why does toughened glass sometimes explode?

The process of manufacturing toughened glass creates internal stresses to give glass strength. Some defects caused by scratches, chipping, expansion due to sunlight and other factors can make toughened glass fracture at any time.
